Succeeding in the complex world of academia requires more than just research skills. It also requires leadership, planning, administrative, and self-promotion skills – all from the same person!
Managing these (sometimes competing) demands can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. In this talk, designed for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career academics, you’ll learn how to develop the essential personal and project-management skills that all researchers need in order to thrive in the demanding environment of academia.
You’ll learn practical tips and tested strategies on how to independently and collaboratively manage your day-to-day work and research program, including how to
- balance research tasks with administrative to-dos
- develop a strategic publication plan that establishes your research niche and area of expertise
- stay ahead of funding applications and proposals
- get yourself “application ready” for open positions
- and finally, how to effectively lead and mentor research teams as an early-career PI.
Join this engaging talk – structured in a problem-solution format – from someone who knows firsthand the reality of what researchers face: too much to do and too little time to do it, and walk away with a realistic approach for succeeding in academia.
