Careers in or Beyond Academia? Always Open to New Connections
Exploring Career Pathways Beyond Academia: A Recap of Our Networking Event.
At the end of June, we welcomed around 130 researchers from across Austria and Europe for an evening dedicated to career development, professional exchange and relaxed networking. The event was organised in collaboration with EURAXESS, strengthening our shared commitment to supporting researchers at every stage of their careers.
The afternoon started with two interactive workshops. Elena Hoffer shared practical advice on crafting CVs that stand out in non-academic contexts — because yes, your skills do translate. Matteo Tardelli led a reflective session helping participants define personal values and clarify future goals, no crystal ball required.
In the evening, Dr. Tina Persson opened with her keynote Exploring New Paths: Careers Beyond Traditional Tracks. Her insights encouraged researchers to think beyond the expected and consider diverse and fulfilling career options.
This set the stage for a lively World Café hosted by Tina and our expert panel — Dejan Batić, Elena Hoffer, Matteo Tardelli and Elisabeth Wagner. Together with participants, they explored the realities, challenges and opportunities of building a career beyond academia.
The evening wrapped up with a panel discussion and transitioned into informal networking under a warm summer sky — with music, conversation and plenty of ideas exchanged over drinks.
