Data Science is not “rocket science” – completion of the fourth module Digital Transformation in Research

Data Science makes it possible to recognize patterns from large amounts of data, to ascribe meanings to them, and to extract messages from them that can optimize decision-making bases and processes.

As our two speakers Dr. Ronald Hochreiter and Dr. Johannes Wachs of the WU Vienna mention, Data Science is not “rocket science”, but it does require a fundamental understanding of how to interpret and rely on the results, as well as efficient algorithms. In the fourth module of our Special Program “Digital Transformation in Research”, the participants learned the basics of Data Science and how to apply modern methods of (statistical) Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning in their respective research areas. They not only worked with standard data in matrix format, but also on methods for processing text and network models.

A follow-up will take place in February at our Digital Lunch Session on the topic of “Data Science in Real Life – Interaction of Science and Practice”.
